Serve Let's do this!

Hope you're crushing it on the tennis court! 👊 This week, we've got some game-changing tips to supercharge your serve speed. Whether you're a seasoned player or just getting started, these quick fixes can add some serious mph to your serve.

1. Grip - Get a Grip!

To rev up your serve, make sure you're using a continental grip. Using a forehand grip? Time to switch it up. A continental grip helps you get your racquet on edge, creating that crucial racquet head speed.

One way to think about how the racquet should feel in your hands when holding a continental grip is to think about how you would hold a hammer when hammering in a nail.

2. Keep Your Palm Down - The Golden Rule!

During your serve motion, keep that palm down until you're ready to unleash the beast at the ball during contact. It might feel a bit odd at first, but trust me, it makes a world of difference.

The picture of Roger Federer below is a perfect look at his palm and strings pointing down as he arrives in his trophy pose. This allows for a better transition to keeping the racquet on edge to increase your racquet head speed.

3. Serve Like You Throw - Mimic the Motion!

Ever noticed how your throwing motion is similar to your serve? Capture that moment just before you throw a ball, and you've got a glimpse of the ideal trophy position in your serve. It's all about that fluid, natural movement.

To develop the perfect serve kinetic chain you should be understanding the mechanics of a throw before you teach or practice jumping. By staying grounded it also becomes easier to develop the throwing technique and to understand how to effectively use your body.

4. Grip Pressure - Find Your Sweet Spot!

On a scale from 0 to 10 (with 10 being a death grip), aim for a grip pressure of 4-6. Too tight, and you risk injury. Experiment within this range and discover what works best for your serve.

Grip pressure in tennis is a dynamic aspect of the game that adapts to different situations and strokes. Understanding the appropriate grip pressure for each scenario is vital for controlling the ball better in easy and more difficult situations.

I've been working on these tweaks to boost my serve speed, aiming for that elusive 130 MPH mark. Give these tips a shot over the next few weeks, and you might just see that extra 3-5 mph added to your serve!

Stay tuned for more tennis insights, and remember – it's all about progress, not perfection.
